The BackBlast:
Snoop started us off with SSH IC X 50 = 100SSH, some planks, merkins, and a heavy carry around the sun. Bastion came for a visit, but did not linger long. Next stop is THE stop sign. Did some KB work and headed off to the OTHER stop sign aka Gun Shot Corner.
We had another Bastion Fly By…pretty cool to see them twice in one gloom.
In case you are wondering, Gun Shot Corner is so named because a few years ago we were doing sandbag work here. A lady came out of her house, worried about gun shots going off outside. Not sure where she is today, but pretty bold to run out in her bathrobe to a group of men in the dark apparently shooing guns. We did some squats here for the six, then off to the Baseball backstop. WE did not stop at the backstop, likely because of the lack of a stop sign, so Snoop proceeded down to the picnic tables my son built for his Eagle Project. Ya know…right next to the golden arches. After exiting the arches, Snoop took us to the grassy knoll & passed the torch to YHC.
We did bear crawl sandbag drags across the knoll, at endex, we did rifle position sandbag hold for some Bible verses. Snoop did one and Mountain Momma used “Jesus wept.” I thought about busting out a long one, but my arms were getting tired. Next exercise was grassy knoll bear crawl slick (no gear). Pax moved to traffic circle grounded bells at one end, proceeded to other end with Sandbag only. We did one lap around the circle with sandbag in rifle hold position. Next exercise was partner Legitups.
Legitups are a sit-up with a sand bag on your chest. The main difference between a Legitup and a typical F3 Metro sandbag situp is that the sandbag remains perpendicular to body and in constant contact with your chin throughout the entire range of motion. The bag at no time is found over your hips…that would be called a Slackerup. PAX went to failure, I got 35 so now y’all have something to shoot for if you ever want to try it. Left about 5 reps in reserve so you better get 40 or I’m coming for you. I had the 40# bag this morning. If that gets too easy for you, you can switch to the Lindell. The Lindell is a sandbag sit up but the sand bag is held behind your head like a My Pillow…these are much tougher and you need a partner or have your feet in a block to hold your feet down. I think I can get about 4-6 reps of these with a 40# and that’s about it. In failure comes growth so we seek it with all intention.
After that Snoop stole the Q back from me and we just longwinged it back to the flag for COT with a coupala stops for the six and some exercises. He did spice it up a bit with partner carries (2 bells or 2 bags each) I was unfortunate to get teamed up with Mountain Momma who had a 45# Bell and a 50# Sandbag.
Highlights:
Great to have Belk and Frosty in the mix today…we needed them and they added to the fun. Chicken Wing out front all day so were were chasing him with our gear. I did manage to pass him on the sandbag carry loop and of course I trash talked him and asked him why he was going so slow. He just gave me that Wing Grin we all love…knowing it was just for a fleeting moment.
Wing and Snoop lead the charge back to COT, so I had to play a dirty trick. I dropped my gear for Mountain Momma right in front of Snoop and Wings gear at the next stop…blocking them. Snoop was complaining that Momma was too big to get around and I reminded him we did not name him Feather Momma. That was a Long Longwing back and everyone was feeling it.
Pretty good morning, good coffee fellowship and good Bible Study after on Poppy’s porch with Momma on Q.
Snoops got some ruck thing coming up
Waypoint Church is planning a Men’s Retreat for the Spring so watch for dates if that’s something you are interested in attending. March 6-8th is the likely date if you want to hold it-but this is yet to be confirmed.
I love the smell of sandbags in the morning.
