The BackBlast:

Many moons ago, I posted to my first mid-week 0530 workout at Atlas. I remember that I had done a couple of Saturday workouts at AG and was still thinking how getting up to make a workout at 0700 on a Saturday was painful. So now the idea of getting up somewhere around 5 in the morning to make it to a 0530 start was really crazy. I think Atlas had been going for a number of months, and my thought process is I could start doing one workout in the middle of the week giving me enough time to recover before doing AG again on Saturday. Well enough of that – you all know how it felt your first time at one of those mid-week early morning workouts. Being back at Atlas as the Q also brought back that feeling of doing your first Q. Even though I have now Q’ed many times, I have more time to plan what I want to do. That sometimes can turn out to be a bad idea because I have a tendancy to formulate workouts with too many moving parts. Somethings don’t change, so here’s The Thang:

Mosey to ABC store for short warm up of Smurf Jacks and FreddieMercury.
Mosey to HT for Hillbillies and Lunges.
Mosey to NovantHealth for Mountain Climbers.
Mosey to PetSmart for Plank Jacks.
Mosey to ToyMania for Big Boy Situps.
Mosey to VisionWorks for Jump Squats.
Mosey to Walgreens for Merkins.
Mosey to my truck parked near the Wells Fargo.

Team up into 8 groups and spread out across 8 weight stations:
Station 1 – one pax runs to Walgreens to do Merkin x15 and runs back while
other pax alternate between Flies with 5# weights and Merkins.
Once each pax has completed trip to Walgreens, rotate to next station.
Station 2 – one pax runs to VisionWorks to do JumpSquats x15 and runs back while
other pax alternate between UpRightRows with 10# weights and JumpSquats.
Once each pax has completed trip to VisionWorks, rotate to next station.
Station 3 – one pax runs to ToyMania to do Big Boy Situps x15 and runs back while
other pax alternate between Overhead Presses with 15# weights and Big Boy Situps.
Once each pax has completed trip to ToyMania, rotate to next station.
Station 4 – one pax runs to PetSmart to do PlankJacks x15 and runs back while
other pax alternate between Curls with 20# weights and PlankJacks.
Once each pax has completed trip to PetSmart, rotate to next station.
Station 5 – one pax runs to NovantHealth to do MountainClimbers x15 and runs back while
other pax alternate between Squats with 25# weights and MountainClimbers.
Once each pax has completed trip to NovantHealth, rotate to next station.
Station 6 – one pax runs to Harris Teeter to do Lunges x15 and runs back while
other pax alternate between Farmer Carrier 10 yds with 30# weights and Lunges.
Once each pax has completed trip to Harris Teeter, rotate to next station.
Station 7 – one pax runs to ABC Store to do Freddie Mercury x15 and runs back while
other pax alternate between Swings with 30# Kettlebell and Freddie Mercury.
Once each pax has completed trip to ABC Store, rotate to next station.
Station 8 – one pax runs around Wells Fargo branch x2 while
other pax alternate between Over the Shoulder Throws with 40# sandbag and LBC.
Once each pax has completed trips around Wells Fargo Branch, rotate to next station.

Pulled the plug around the time most groups had finished 7 or 8 stations.
Put the gear back in my truck and took a reverse lap to our store destinations and back to start for a few more Smurf Jacks and 5 burpees to show the FNG what they were.

So the story is, my M bought a bunch of weights 6 months ago and when they arrived and were unpacked, the rubber they were constructed of smelled awful so they were moved outside and have been sitting under my car port since they arrived. It was time they were put to use. Atlas was the perfect place to do that. After the previous week when Cracker led us 3+ miles all over the place and back, I knew that would not be the case this week. BTW – we were missing all the previous Atlas site Q’s yesterday. Not sure what YHC is to make of that, but I will take that up with my therapist when I see them next. Last week 3 posted – Cracker, Kaiser and Disney. Blue would have been there, but I think he is stretched thin with everything he has going on.

Back to this week’s beatdown. As the title says, it was a modified shopping for pain theme. Shopping for Pain is always a crowd pleaser, but to change it up, I introduced coupons into the mix. Coupons are not completely banned from Atlas because let’s review some AO history – there used to be a pile of cinder blocks in the wooded area near the front of Cotswold Elementary that would be pulled out occasionally by Q’s. Not having posted there as much, I don’t know if they have been used or forgotten and now that the school is being demolished, they may be lost forever.

Good to see BelAir at Atlas and really nice of him to bring Cat Bomb (Michael Smith). BelAir met CatBomb in Antartica. Let that sit for a sec. Yep, Antartica, at a race where you had to take Russian ice breakers to get there. Sounds like a future F3 Metro CSAUP. Scrooge and Newport – you guys need to up your game to organize something like that. BTW – I’m not signing up. CatBomb? That’s one that unless you were there at his naming, I’m 100% sure you would never guess how that name was derived. Even being there myself, I’m not exactly sure I can explain it, but it came out of a combination of “Tell us about yourself”, BelAir’s added comments, weather tracking, insurance, and Coach’s poor hearing. YHC is surprised that an FNG from Scotland, living and working in London didn’t get named something based on an Austin Powers movie. Welcome to F3 CatBomb.

I have to say after looking at all the Pax names from yesterday, F3 does come up with some interesting nicknames. So CatBomb really is not too crazy compared to MomJeans, ChocolateBox, Peanut, KY, FlyWithMe, etc.

That’s enough – again, YHC has too much time, but there are things to do: pick up prescriptions from Walgreens, glasses from VisionWorks, toys for the grand kids from ToyMania, dog food at PetSmart, flu shot at Novant Health, food at Harris Teeter, and libations from the ABC Store. And to pay for all that, YHC will need to run by the ATM at Wells Fargo for some cash to pay for all that shopping. (I know you are thinking, all those places take Apple Pay or credit cards, so Carrier, why do you need cash?! Let me remind you this was the Double Respect Cash Flow Edition of Shopping of Pain.)

    Great workout as well.
Nice seeing y’all use some weights, a sandbag even!!!

    Sandbags are awesome training tools.
So much can be done with them.
