Indy Backblast, 12/6/2020 – The Homecoming

The BackBlast:

Don’t call it a comeback, we’ve been here for years. Almost 9 years, to be exact. Indy was founded in 2012 and is arguably one of the best AOs in Metro. Wanna go uptown to the Muthaship? Sure, plenty of time to do that. Wanna go to Plaza Midwood? Yep, we can easily do that, too. Elizabeth, Eastover, Myers Park, Cherry, Midtown? Check, check, check. Cotswold, the Arboretum, Lake Norman, Lake Wylie, Columbia, S.C., Fort Chiswell…? The list literally goes on and on of the places a Q can take the pax of Indy. Actually, last year a Go Ruck group did ruck from Lake Wylie and made a stop for a convergence with us at Indy, so there’s a tad bit of truth with that one. But the larger point stands: It’s a great AO with a ton of variety.

But numbers have been slipping a bit lately, and it was time for a charge, a homecoming of sorts. Bishop has been in town this week, and he, well, pulled a Bishop, and personally headlocked a ton of guys. Twenty-two pax were there today, including some deep-cut Indy kotters, such as Deacon, The Jet, and K2. Gastone and Tesla drove up from Gastonia. Razorback drove in from Raleigh. Man, what fun to have all these guys back in the gloom.

The shovel flag was planted (for real today, too), and we exercised.

The Thang:

Mosey down to the park, do a U-turn back toward the parking lot when YHC became worried the car alarm continuing to go off was his (it wasn’t), then continue back into the park for COP at the basketball court for the usual:

  • Side Straddle Hops
  • Imperial Walkers
  • Merkins, hold it
  • Mountain Climbers, hold it
  • Peter Parkers, hold it
  • Parker Peters, hold it
  • Widearm merkins

Mosey out the park and head for the Captain Jack statue. Due to too many guys to safely distance around the fountain, partner up. Partner A does 15 jump ups at the fountain while Partner B hangs back and does Merkins. 3 rounds.

Mosey back to Elizabeth at Pease Ln. for the start of 11’s. 1 Merkin at Pease, run up to the CPCC bell tower and do 10 burpees, etc. Some of the leaders, such as Snots and Cooler, finished quickly, so they got to do extra rounds.

Backward run up Elizabeth to Charlottetown. Then AYG up Elizabeth to Hawthorne, turn around and go pick up the six.

Head back toward the park, stopping for some Mary in a parking lot. At the baseball field stands, partner up again. Partner A does Merkins while Partner B bunny hops up the Jet’s stone bleachers. Two rounds. The Jet finished in one piece today, so that was a win.

Mosey to the soccer field (still wet) where The Colonel BHWTU took over to lead a couple rounds of He See’s Me.

Run the long way around the park and back to the lot for COT.

NMM:

  • Awesome time today. Really was great having so many of the old crew back. Let’s keep this AO strong by continuing to reach out and EH kotters, EH FNGs, and hard commit for ourselves to taking the DRP each Saturday.
  • While he wasn’t here today, the thoughts and prayers of the Pax were squarely with Double Eagle who lost his brother last week. Stay strong, DE, and we look forward to seeing you back in the gloom.
  • It would have been nice to get to Bishop’s Castle today. But YHC decided in advance to steer clear since we’d have a big crowd, and I didn’t want to mess with those tight stairwells. Wouldn’t help Indy’s numbers at all if we all got Covid. Stay safe out there, people. I noticed the Colonel was demonstrating good leadership by having a mask on today, especially before and after the workout. I’ve seen Taf doing the same thing at other workouts. Good stuff.
  • Many thanks to Razorback, who not only drove from Raleigh last night just so he could be here, but then filmed the workout and posted a great video. See above.
  • Mr. D has the Q next week.

If you have interest in signing up to Q in the future, reach out to Oswald or Cooler and we’ll get you on the calendar.
