The BackBlast:

10 thought they had ball skills so they posted to a basketball themed workout.  Guess what … we did a lot more burpees than I expected.  It was hot so I planned for a shade oriented low mileage workout with a timely basketball (but not domed) related theme.

Mosey to picnic tables under the 250 year old tree (no one really know how old, but one limb was at least 100 years old).  YHC carried the bucket up the shady sidewalk and brought back the first basketball marked with an exercise.  We did the exercise while the next pax retrieved another basketball.  After each pax retrieved one basketball, YHC retrieved the bucket and we moseyed to the next station.

Around the benches we set up one of the buckets in the center of the sculpture garden, and while all pax did the wall sit, YHC took the bucket to the bottom of the stairs and then brought back the next exercise.  Upon return, YHC attempted successfully (just saying) to shoot the basketball into the bucket avoiding 5 penalty burpees.  I then called the exercise on the basketball and another pax went to retrieve the next basketball.  Each pax had to try to shoot the basketball into the bucket, and if they missed, everyone did 5 burpees before performing the identified exercise.   We worked through each of the remaining basketballs, YHC retrieved the bucket, and we moseyed to the next station – the basketball bowling station.  YHC placed the two buckets 30 yards down the driveway and each pax tried to bowl a basketball through the two buckets.  If they parted the buckets successfully, they avoided the penalty burpees (started with 5, but dropped to 3, since as bad as the pax shooting skills were, their bowling skills were worse.)  We did an enormous number of burpees.

To top off the bowling portion, each pax was allowed to bowl 2 balls towards the buckets, and as long as at least one of the two basketballs was bowled between the two buckets (which by this time had been placed further apart as an accommodation for the pax’s lack of any bowling skill), the pax would avoid doing burpees.

That was pretty much it.  FYI – Fugitive thought it was in everyone’s best interest to take the burpee basketball home as a souvenir, or maybe he considered it his birthday present – what does a 60 year old really need?!

Without doubt, the ManCave pax have no skills as far as shooting tiny squishy little basketballs into a home depot bucket from 5 feet away.  To be fair, it’s not something these HIMs are sitting around doing with their spare time.  With all the public park basketball courts shut down with no rims on the backboards, and all bowling alleys closed, the pax had little chance to prepare for today’s challenges.

Next Sunday, Fugitive will have his delayed birthday Q followed by a trip to TripleC Brewery for a pint of two.  Don’t miss it.  His son is a brew master there, and our last field trip there was a huge success.

We still are missing a few ManCavers – Litebrite, ChocolateBox, Pencil – get off the couch and get back to the ManCave.
